Bangladesh ODI captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza became the third Bangladesh cricketer after Habibul Bashar and Shakib Al Hasan to win the the Sera Bengali award.
The award was given to Mashrafe on sports category by Kolkata’s daily Bengali newspaper Anandabazar Patrika.
The award is organized by the news outlet on an annual basis to celebrate Bengali person of the year for outstanding achievements in sports and other categories.
The award was handed to Mashrafe by Jhulan Goswami, the ex captain of India’s women’s team.
According to Anandabazar, the Bangladesh captain said: “To have come from Bangladesh to receive this respect is a matter of pride for me. It feels nice to have come here today.”
Former Bangladesh captain Habibul Bashar won the award in 2007 while Bangladesh’s top all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan won the award in 2012.
