He assures India’s continued support
Indian Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh on Sunday congratulated his Bangladesh counterpart Sheikh Hasina for being Prime Minister for the third time.
Dr Singh called Hasina at about 6:05 pm and talked to her for 10 minutes, PM’s press secretary Abul Kalam Azad told UNB.
He said the Indian Prime Minister also congratulated Sheikh Hasina on forming her new government for the second consecutive term.
Manmohan hoped that the bilateral cooperation between the two neighbourly countries will continue as in the previous term.
“He (Dr Singh) also hoped that the re-election of the AL-led alliance government will ease the path to resolve the bilateral issues,” Azad quoted the Indian premier as saying.
Dr Singh also said the grand alliance government in the last tenure did a tremendous job in women empowerment and development in health and infrastructure sector apart from curbing militancy.
He hoped that the government would continue its efforts to develop in these sectors along with others in the coming years.
The Indian PM also said Bangladesh and India will work together in the coming days for the mutual benefit as well as developing the whole region.
“India will always remain there with this government which believes in the spirit of the Liberation War,” the PM’s Press secretary quoted the Indian Prime Minister as telling Hasina.
