Ganajagaran Mancha has found that Hindus have been attacked Bangladesh-wide because of inadequate protection during the general election held amid political violence.
The Mancha has held the Election Commission responsible, while noting the failure of the candidates in doing their duty.
Its spokesperson Imran H Sarker made these observations at Shahbagh on Thursday after their second road march to Thakurgaon held in protest against communal violence.
He said, “The Election Commission is mostly responsible for failing to prevent communal violence which was centered on the elections.
“We found that the Election Commission did not take the necessary protective measures for traditional voters and those of different religious beliefs during the polls amid tension and violent political situation.”
“Also candidates who ran in the polls and their supporters failed to prevent the attacks. The damage would have been far less if they did their bit.”

The Mancha placed a three-point charter of demands including a separate legislation to stop communal violence.
The platform, which was born in February last year through protests demanding the maximum punishment for all 1971 war criminals, held a road march from Dhaka to Thakurgaon on Jan 17-19 against the violence that took place after the general election.
Earlier on Jan 10-11, they also marched to Jessore’s Maloparha.
Imran Sarker, however, thanked the government for providing adequate aid to the victims of hate attacks at Maloparha in Jessore.
He demanded that the government give aid to the victims of other areas and compensate them for their losses.
