A 65-year-old man suffering from cold and fever died at Domar upazila in Nilphamari district while a physician of Kishoreganj Upazila Health Complex was reportedly found infected by coronavirus on Wednesday, UNB reports.
The old man who was receiving treatment for fever, cold and cough at his Khanpara village died in the early morning, said Domar Upazila Health Officer Dr Md Ibrahim.
Sample of the deceased was collected and sent to Rangpur Medical College and Hospital for coronavirus test while his house has been put under lockdown, said Dr Ibrahim.
Officer-in-charge of Domar Police Station Mostafizur Rahman said they buried the body as locals were afraid of making any arrangement for his burial.
Meanwhile, a physician of Kishoreganj Upazila Health Complex was kept in isolation after he was reportedly found infected by the virus while another 243 people, including doctors and nurses, were sent to home quarantine.
Civil Surgeon Ranjit Kumar Barman said the Health Complex was put under lockdown at 5pm on Tuesday and urged the local people to take necessary treatment from Community Clinics at union level.
The infected doctor, whose name was not disclosed, went to Dhaka on March 25 and fell sick after he returned to his workplace on April 3.
Meanwhile, three more people died in the country from coronavirus in the last 24 hours, raising the death toll to 20, according to the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR).
Besides, 54 people tested positive for COVID-19 during the period, raising the number of such cases in the country to 218.
