The Election Commission has declared Naogaon district Awami League General Secretary Abdul Malek elected without a contest in the by-election to Naogaon-5 (Sadar Upazila) constituency.
Returning Officer Nuruzzaman Talukder declared Malek elected on Monday.
Malek was previously the Chairman of Naogaon Sadar Upazila Council.
Awami League on Apr 22 nominated Malek as the party candidate for the by-election that was slated for May 25.
The Naogaon-5 parliamentary seat fell vacant following the death of veteran lawmaker and former General Secretary of the Awami League Abdul Jalil on Mar 6.
