The governments of Bangladesh and Malaysia have signed three MoUs in this regard
The government of Malaysia has been contracted for building 22,000 apartments and a flyover in the capital to help Bangladesh government ease Dhaka’s housing problems and traffic jam.
The quarters are expected to be complete by 30 months of construction. The housing flats will be constructed in Uttara and Kamrangir Char areas while the 13-kilometre long flyover will connect Shantinagar and the Mawa road in Keraniganj.
The governments of Bangladesh and Malaysia signed three different MoUs in this regard, on government to government basis, on Tuesday.
Malaysia will place their financial proposals soon after the remaining agreements are signed, Housing and Public Works Minister Mosharraf Hossain told the media.
The minister and Malaysian government’s special envoy Dato Seri Utama S Samy Vellu signed the three MoUs on behalf of their respective governments.
“The final agreements can be signed by the next two months, I hope,” the minister said. “The 22,000 apartments will be constructed within 30 months of the work order.”
Initially the Malaysian government will begin construction of 12,000 apartments of the 18,000 at Uttara which was previously awarded to Ena Properties Limited.
Owner of Ena Properties, ruling Awami League MP Enamul Hque, failed to complete the construction works within time. The ministry will construct the remaining 6,000.
