Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Friday called upon opposition leader Khaleda Zia and others to “restrain themselves from creating any obstacles to the war crimes trial”.
“If necessary, those who are opposing the trail will be tried under the Shariah law,” the premier said at the Awami League Working Committee Meeting at Gono Bhaban in the evening.
She said the trial process will be completed in a faster way if they continue their protests.
Earlier on Wednesday, the premier reaffirmed her government’s firm resolve to hold the trial of war criminals.
Speaking at a function at Dhaka University, she said those who thought the government would stop the trial proceedings by getting nervous in the face of different movements were wrong.
Referring to the recent attacks on police by the activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir, Hasina had said, “It is wrong to suppose that we will stop the trial [of war criminals] by getting nervous in the face of the movement.”
