Libyan Chargé D’affaires to Dhaka MS Kamel Al Mahjoub on Wednesday refuted a media report that he had connection with three Libyan nationals who were arrested for their involvement with an illegal manpower business.
Detective Branch of police on October 24 arrested the three Libyan nationals and a Bangladeshi woman from a hotel in the capital’s Gulshan area and seized 684 Bangladeshi passports, $US1.81 lakh and Tk 10.66 lakh in cash from their possession.
Private television channel ATN Bangla in a report earlier said the charge d’affaires has a link with the arrestees as they were seen attending a press conference of Kamel in July in the capital.
On the other hand, blaming the channel, the Libyan envoy said ATN had telecast the news in collaboration with the supporters of assassinated Libyan president Muammar Gaddafi.
“ATN Bangla telecasted the ‘false’ news because it has been serving for the enemies of the Libyan people,” he said at a press conference in the capital’s Hotel Westin.
But the reporter concerned of ATN Bangla told The Daily Star that he had made the report after an investigation and holding talks with arrestees, foreign ministry officials and the victims of illegal manpower trade.
