The Liberation War Museum authority on Friday said any person or organisation could be an owner of the museum’s permanent building in the capital’s Agargaon area by making a donation.
The museum authority solicited donations from all to complete some unfinished works, said a press release.
The museum authority organised a press conference at the new building to let the people know about the progress of the museum building and sought funds.
One of the trustees Sarwar Ali said they just began a special campaign for three months to raise funds.
Purchasing a symbolic brick with Tk 10,000 could be a way to funding, he said.
The trustee said the museum authority would form an endowment fund if any surplus money was left.
That money would be used for the museum activities, he said.
‘Bangladesh’s Liberation war was the people’s war. Our independence was achieved because all classes of people took part in the war. That is why we want all to be the owners of the museum’ he added.
The museum’s another trustee and member secretary Ziauddin Tariq Ali said the work had started in 2012. The permanent building was done while the galleries were yet to be installed.
The museum authority said they hoped that all the works would be finished by this December.
The museum is now housed in Segunbagicha in the capital.
The projected cost of the museum is about Tk 102 crore of which Tk 80 crore has already been collected as donations made by individuals, organisations and government allocations.
The news briefing was attended, among others, by the museum trustee Sara Zaker and Rabiul Hussain and finance committee member A Matin Chowdhury.
