Plainclothes police arrested Barrister Fakhrul Islam, a lawyer of war crimes convict Salauddin Quader Chowdhury, from the city’s Segunbagicha are on Wednesday.
He was arrested in connection with the leakage of the draft verdict on condemned convict war criminal BNP MP Salauddin Quader Chowdhury, police said.
A special team of the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police conducted a raid on the chamber of Barrister Fakhrul at about 3:30 pm and arrested him.
Fakhrul was arrested in a case filed with Shahbagh Police Station in connection with the leakage of the verdict. DB Inspector Fazlur Rahman filed the on October 4.
On October 1, the International Crimes Tribunal-1 sentenced BNP policymaker Salauddin Quader Chowdhury to death for committing crimes against humanity, including genocide, during the 1971 Liberation War.
However, the ICT verdict without containing the judges’ observations and sentences got circulated on different websites before it was pronounced by the tribunal.
