ATN Bangla senior reporter Runi and her husband Golam Mustofa Sarowar, alias Sagar Sarowar, who was news editor with Maasranga Television, were murdered sometime in the early hours of Saturday at their rented flat in west Rajabazar in the capital.
The couple’s only 5-year-old child Mahin Sarowar Megh found his parents dead in their bedroom at 7am on Saturday.
Shahara had ordered police and other law-enforcing agencies to arrest those responsible within 48 hours while visiting the crime scene.
Journalists at a protest programme on Sunday threatened to take to the streets if the killers are not arrested by the remaining 24 hours.
Asked about the progress in the investigation in the last 24 hours, the home minister declined to divulge anything on the issue until the investigation is completed.
“The investigation into the incident was started immediately. The local administration, DB Police, RAB and CID are working on the issue. We’re hopeful that we would be successful very soon,” she added.
After the end of the meeting, organised on the security management ahead of the International Mother Language Day (Feb 21), inspector general of police (IGP) Hassan Mahmood Khandker told reporters they were ‘hoping’ to resolve the case.
