Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Khaleda Zia on Wednesday urged people to come forward to save the country from prevailing situation, and the oppression and corruption of the incumbent government.

She made the call when briefly addressing an iftar party hosted by a faction of National People’s Party, a component of the BNP-led alliance, at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in Dhaka.
Khaleda said ‘we have to pray to Allah in the month of Ramadan to save people from killing, enforced
disappearance, repression, plunder and corruption.’
She said the ‘illegal’ government was surviving only through the force of police.
She said the police are currently running the state.
The BNP chairperson said numerous leaders and activists of the BNP-led alliance remained behind bars or in hiding having been accused in numerous cases.
She said the cases were filed against them accusing them of torching vehicles and hurling petrol bombs.
Khaleda said police had admitted that they themselves hurled petrol bombs to save the government from movement and check the fall of the government.
She said opposition leaders and activists would not have been harassed or sent into jail if the judiciary was independent and neutral.
She said the judiciary would have summoned the police official who had made such clearly self-implicating statement and brought him to book, if the judiciary had been independent.
She came down hard at the government for recently importing rotten wheat from Brazil saying the (government) want to kill people by feeding it to them. She said ruling party men plundered crores of taka and laundered money, but they are not caught and tried.
She said they ((ruling party men) smuggled the country’s property, sending people and their money to Swiss banks.
A munajat was offered before the iftar.
NPP (faction) chairman Fariduzzaman Farhad received Khaleda Zia at the hotel.
The alliance leaders including Liberal Democratic Party president Oli Ahmed, Jamaat-e-Islami working council member Aminul Islam, Islami Oikya Jote chairman Abdul Latif Nezami, Khelafat Majlish ameer Mohammad Ishaq, JAGPA president Shafiul Alam Prodhan, Kalyan Party chairman M Syed Ibrahim, and Labour Party chairman Mustafizur Rahman Iran attended the iftar party.
