Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Khaleda Zia along with party leaders and activists placed wreaths at the grave of party founder and late president Ziaur Rahman marking his 34th death anniversary on Saturday noon.
The BNP chief reached the graveside around 12:00pm and after placing wreaths she attended a prayer session there.
She also inaugurated a blood donation programme organised by Doctors Association of Bangladesh on the occasion.
BNP, its associate bodies are observing the day with various programmes. They have also chalked out a 14-day programme to observe the death anniversary.
The death anniversary is being observed through various programmes, including hoisting party and black flags, wearing black badges, placing wreaths and offering fateha at Zia‘s grave, distribution of cooked food among the destitute and voluntary blood donation.
On May 30, 1981, Zia was assassinated by a group of army officers at Chittagong Circuit House.
