Opposition Leader Khaleda Zia on Tuesday paid homage to the 1971 Liberation War heroes placing wreaths at the National Mausoleum in Savar on the outskirts of the capital.
Khaleda, also the BNP chairperson, flanked by her party leaders and workers paid tributes to the freedom fighters of the country by standing in solemn silence for a minute around 8:20 am.
Later, Khaleda drove to the mazar of late President Ziaur Rahman, the founder of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital.
Khaleda, along with the leaders and workers of BNP and its front and associate organisations, placed wreaths at Zia’s mazar around and offered fateha.
BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, standing committee members Moudud Ahmed, MK Anwar, Rafiqul Islam Miah, Mirza Abbas, vice chairman Sadeque Hossain Khoka and Altaf Hossain Chowdhury , among others, were present.
