Khaleda for strong resistance against misrule

BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia on Sunday night urged the country’s people to create a strong resistance against the incidents of forced disappearance, killing and repression by the current regime.

The former premier made the call while addressing a function at her Gulshan office marking the joining of a section of Laxmipur district unit Jatiya Party leader to BNP.

Laxmipur district unit Jatiya Party general secretary Mahmudur Rahman Mahmud along with 50 other JP leaders and activists joined BNP by presenting a bouquet to Khaleda.

Welcoming the Jatiya Party men, the BNP chief said all must work together against the misdeeds and repression of the government. “A strong resistance needs to be built against them.”

She went on: “The government is killing, making disappeared and repressing the opposition leaders and activists across the country, including Laxmipur, through law enforcement agencies. This government will have to shoulder the responsibility for the countrywide incidents of forced disappearance and killing. They must be made accountable for the misdeeds one day.”

BNP standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan, former MPs Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anee, ABM Ashraf Uddin Nizan and Abul Khair Bhuiyan were, among others, present.

Mahmudur Rahman Mahmud may get support of the BNP-led 19-party alliance to contest the Ramganj Upazila elections as a chairman candidate.
