Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Khaleda Zia on Saturday evening left Dhaka for London for treatment of her eye and knee.
Khaleda boarded on a regular flight of Emirates that took off around 8:00pm from Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka, according to BNP chairperson’s press wing member Shamsuddin Dider.
BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir saw off the party chairperson at VIP lounge of the airport.
Other senior leaders were not allowed to go to VIP lounge to see off Khaleda, the party leaders complained.
The party senior leaders including Khandoker Mosharraf Hossain, Moudud Ahmed, Abdullah Al Noman, Shamsuzzaman Dudu, Abdus Salam, Amanullah Aman, Mizanur Rahman Minu, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Mahbub Uddin Khokon, Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, Nazimuddin Alam and Sultana Ahmed saw Khaleda off standing on the premises of the airport.
A good number of leaders and activists of BNP and its front and associate organisations lined on street leading to the airport greeted and saw off their leader by waving hands and chanting slogans.
Khaleda’s return to home would depend on her treatment, according to secretary general Fakhrul.
The BNP chief was accompanied by her private secretary ABM Abdus Satter and her domestic help Fatema, Shamsuddin Dider said.
Khaleda Zia would stay at the residence of her elder son Tarique Rahman , BNP senior vice-chairman, in London, Dider said.
Tarique has been staying in London since September 2008 for his ‘medical treatment’.
Khaleda, former prime minister, had gone to London in September 2015 for her eye treatment and health checkup.
She had celebrated Eid-ul-Azha in London with Tarique, his family and family members of her younger son late Arafat Rahman Koko.
