Depositing her previous passport, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has applied for the Machine Readable Passport (MRP) on Thursday.
In order to complete the procedure, the former premier reached the passport office in the capital’s Agargaon around 4.30pm.
Later, she left the passport office around 5pm, said Maruf Kamal Khan, press secretary to BNP Chairperson.
He told the Dhaka Tribune: “Madam deposited her previous passport and completed the procedures for a new passport like an ordinary person.”
Khaleda Zia has been using the “red passport” faculties since 1991 after assuming office as a prime minister.
Red passports are issued for the presidents, prime ministers, leaders of the opposition in parliament, speakers, deputy speakers and cabinet members.
But, as Khaleda now is neither prime minister of the country nor the leader of the opposition, she deposited the “red passport” and applied for MRP passport like other common people of the country.
