Keep JU administrative activities uninterrupted: HC

The High Court on Wednesday directed the Vice-Chancellor, two pro vice-chancellors and registrar of Jahangirnagar University to take necessary steps so that its administrative activities are not hampered.

A joint bench comprising justice Naima Haider and Jafar Ahmed passed the interim order after hearing a petition filed by four teachers and a student of the university.

It also issued a rule asking why the authorities concerned would not be directed to take necessary steps to ensure the free entrance of students and teachers into the administrative building and availing of other facilities and holding of senate, syndicate, academic council, finance committee meetings and their participation in the meetings.

Fourteen people, including the home secretary, education secretary, University Grants Commission, JU Vice Chancellor, registrar, IGP, Dhaka district police super, Ashulia thana OC, JU Teachers’ Association president and secretary have been made respondents to the rule within four weeks.

Earlier, a section of JU teachers under the banner JU Teachers’ Association (Juta) had carried out different protest programmes on the university campus demanding resignation of Prof Anwar bringing various allegations against him.

They halted all administrative activities of the university since June 20.
