A rights body, Amar Odhikar Campaign, on Thursday demanded that the political parties keep the education sector outside the purview of their harsher programmes like hartal and blockade to ensure an uninterrupted education life for students.
“The education life of the country’s numerous students is at stake due to the political parties’ action programmes like hartal, one of the weapons of political culture,” said Amar Odhikar Campaign chairperson Sirajud Dahar Khan at a press conference at Dhaka Reporters Unity in the city.
Sirajud Dahar Khan said, “The JSC, PSC examinations as well admission tests in various universities are being badly affected for the political programmes. A negative impact is engrossing the psychology of the children for repeated adjournment of examinations. This negative intellectual, social and economical even political impact can push the nation into darkness.”
Mentioning that some 2,950,193 students are participating in the PSC examinations, he said the students as well as the guardians are worried over the political violent programmes that are hampering the exams.
“The books for the new calendar year may not reach them in time. So the enthusiasm of new books may remain elusive to the students,” he said.
Terming the hardships of school-going children during hartal hours ‘merciless and painful’, Sirajud Dahar Khan said, “We expect realisation of those who want to make the children scapegoat.”
The organisation made an earnest request to all quarters to keep the children as well students safe from all type of violence.
