The BNP-led 20-party opposition alliance partner Bangladesh Kalyan Party (BKP) has alleged that its secretary general Aminur Rahman has remained missing for three days.
Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) chairperson and former prime minister Khaleda Zia voiced concern over the matter and accused that the government is behind the abduction.
Kalyan Party chairman Syed Muhammad Ibrahim voiced his concern country’s future given the way innocent people are being abducted. “What is the future of the country when an innocent man like Aminur Rahman is made to disappear?”
Demanding immediate return of Aminur Rahman, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir condemned the abduction and alleged that the government has undertaken ‘abduction’ and ‘enforced disappearance’ as a state-policy.
Retired major general Syed Muhammad Ibrahim-led Kalyan Party organised a protest programme in front of the National Press Club on Wednesday, demanding immediate return of its secretary general.
BNP’s senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and other leaders of the 20-party alliance spoke at the programme. He alleged that the government is using the law enforcement as “killing machine”.
“The entire country has turned into a reign of abduction. A reign of terror has been created through killing, abduction and forced disappearance of opposition activists being carried out at the behest of the government,” alleged Rizvi.
In her statement, Khaleda Zia, now staying in the United Kingdom, said she believed that the ruling quarters have made Kalyan Party secretary general disappear.
“I strongly believe that the state-power grabbers have made Kalyan Party secretary general disappear. Nobody knows where the secret force has taken him away. Inhuman incidents of human rights violation committed by the current government are being widely discussed at home and abroad whereas the government don’t give a damn to these allegations.
“Ferocity of primitive age has engulfed the country. The current anti-people government has turned the country into the land of killing, abduction and forced disappearance since it came to power,” alleged the former prime minister.
In a separate statement, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul said, “Bangladesh was liberated through bloods of millions not for that a citizen of the country will disappear in the independent country.”
He alleged, “Those who want to cling to the state power curbing people’s interests take killing, abduction, and forced disappearance as a state-policy.”
Meanwhile, three out of four people who disappeared in past nine days are still missing. They are BNP leader and businessman Syed Sadat, Belarus’s honorary consul to Bangladesh and businessman Aniruddha Kumar Roy and Canada varsity student Ishraq Ahmed.
The other – IFIC Bank’s assistant vice president Shamim Ahmed – returned home on Monday night, but nothing has been known about where Shamim had been for all these days.
Shamim Ahmed was picked up from in front of the Khana Basmati restaurant in Paltan of the capital city on 23 August.
The Hindu Bouddha Christian Oikya Parishad organised a press conference at DRU auditorium on Wednesday and demanded immediate return of Aniruddha Roy, the managing director of RMM Group.
They demanded prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s intervention to get back Aniruddha Roy.
