Jubo League’s Jewel remanded

Jubo League leader Aminul Haque Molla alias Jewel Molla and another were placed on a three-day remand on Friday for their alleged links with the abduction of six-year-old Parag Mondol.

Judicial Magistrate Taiyebur Rahman of Dhaka remanded the Shubhadda Union unit Jubo League president and Al Amin, a close aide to Amir Hossain, the ringleader of the abductors.

The remand order came when Keraniganj police produced the duo with a 10-day remand prayer for each of them.

Meanwhile, activists and leaders of Jubo League, youth front of the ruling Awami League, brought out a procession on the court premises demanding the release of their leader.

Police on Thursday arrested Jewel Molla less than two hours after the High Court asked the government to explain in a week why it should not be directed to arrest the alleged mastermind of the kidnapping and Ameer Hossain.

With the latest arrest, the number of detainees in connection with the abduction stands at 10.

On Thursday, Dhaka Metropolitan Police did not confirm the arrests of Ameer and Al Amin. But Rajbari police said a DB team had arrested the duo from Goalanda on Tuesday night.

Armed criminals abducted Parag, son of Bimol Mondol, shooting his mother, sister and their driver near their house in Shubhadda Paschimpara while they were about to board their car for going to school on November 11 morning.

The boy was freed after three days reportedly on a ransom of Tk 50 lakh. But police and Parag’s family denied paying the ransom.

Police arrested Jewel at about 2:00pm in Keraniganj.
