Wing Commander ATM Habibur Rahman, director of Legal and Media Wing of Rab, rules out the claims of Juba League leader Sabuj
A leader of Jubo League, youth wing of ruling Awami League, in Mymensingh claimed to have had led the hijacking of one of the three JMB leaders from a prison’s van in Trishal of Mymensingh on February 23.
The disclosure came at a press briefing at the Rab headquarters following the arrest of eight suspects in connection with the hijacking of the JMB leaders.
Eight people have been detained over possible links to the killing of a policeman and snatching away three condemned militants from the prison van.
They are Kamal Hossain alias Sabuj, Suhel Rana, 28, Ilias Uddin, 34, and Morshed Alam, 22, of Panchgaon under Bhaluka upazila, Bachhr Uddin, 20, of Bonkuwa village under Bhauka upazila, Yusuf Ali alias Sohag, 20, of Panibanda village under Bhaluka upazila, Abu Bakar Siddique, 27, of Morchi village under Bhaluka upazila, and Anwar Hossain, 40, of Tentulia village under Naogaon Sadar upazila.
Kamal Hossain alias Sabuj, who is claimed to be the leader of the eight detainees, at the press briefing said: “The hijacking of one of the three JMB leaders, Hafej Mahmud alias Raqib Hasan, had been carried out under the directives and leadership of Bhaluka police station unit joint secretary Ataur Rahman Kamal.”
He, however, claimed three separate teams had worked in the hijacking and they were not known to the other team members.
He also said Ataur Rahman Kamal alias Juboraj had informed them about the hijacking of the JMB men from the prison van and each of them had been provided with Tk 20,000.
Besides, Sabuj claimed him to be affiliated with the Awami League politics and owner of a coaching centre named ‘Jagoron Tutorial Home’ at Bhaluaka.
However, Wing Commander ATM Habibur Rahman, director of Legal and Media Wing of Rab, ruled out the claims of Sabuj as saying that this was his technique of self safety.
“All the detainees are militants. Whenever any criminals are arrested, he or she opts for political shelter as part of the technique,” said the Rab official.
According to Rab officials, the hijackers of the JMB men had been planning for leaving the country.
JMB Majlish-e-Shura members Salauddin alias Salehin, Hafej Mahmud alias Raqib Hasan and Zahidul Islam alias Boma Mizan had been hijacked from a prison van at Trishal on February 23 while they had been taken to a Mymensingh court from Gazipur jails.
The hijackers had also killed one of the policemen, who had been escorting the JMB men.
Of them, Salauddin and Hafej Mahmud were the death row convicts while Boma Mizan was a life term awarded convict.
Meanwhile, Hafez Mahmud had been arrested a day after the hijacking and also killed in a shooting by police.
Earlier in different times police arrested at least 11 persons in connection with the hijacking of the JMB men.
