A Dhaka court has sentenced Jahangirnagar University teacher Ruhul Amin Khondokar to three years in jail for wishing death of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
He wrote in his Facebook account status “Wishing PM’s death” after the death of five people including filmmaker Tareque Masud and Ashfaque (Mishuk) Munier in a road accident.
Dhaka Additional Chief Magistrate Nazmul Haque Shyamol pronounced the verdict in the absence of the convict on Wednesday afternoon.
The convict has been on the run since the case was filed in 2014.
The court also fined him Tk10,000 and an extra three-month jail in default.
Ruhul was appointed temporarily as a teacher in JU Institute of Information Technology in 2008, and he was availing education leave in Australia since 2009.
In 2012, the High Court sentenced Ruhul to six months jail for not following summons in the case.
Earlier, a Buet teacher was sentenced to seven-year jail for giving death threat to the PM.
