The Junior School Certificate (JSC) and Junior Dakhil Certificate (JDC) examinations will begin tomorrow with 24,12,775 examinees taking part from 28,761 educational institutions across the country.

This year, the number of examinees rose by 86,632 with the number of girls exceeding the boys, said Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid at a pre-examination press briefing at the Secretariat yesterday.

“Necessary measures have been taken to hold the exams in a peaceful environment,” he said, urging the examinees to be present at the exam centres 30 minutes before the test.

He said girls are ahead of boys in terms of numbers as 1,64,029 more girls than boys are sitting for the exams this year.

The JSC candidates will take Bangla first paper tests on the first day, while the JDC students will sit for Quran Mazid and Tazbid. The exams will end on November 17.

The examination was introduced in 2010 when around 18.92 lakh students participated in the test across the country.

This year, over 20.38 lakh students would sit for the JSC exams under eight general education boards. Around 3.74 lakh students would take the JDC exams under madrasa education board, the minister told journalists.

Of the total examinees, about 1.21 lakh are irregular, while some 1.06 lakh will take the improvement examinations, according to the statistics provided by the ministry.

Some 681 overseas students would sit for the tests at eight overseas centres. All papers except for Bangla 2nd, English 1st and 2nd exams would be held under the creative question method, said Nahid.

Speaking on the university admission issue, the minister at the briefing said there was no question of passing or flunking in the university admission tests.

“Admission test is for filtering out; here pass or fail is not an issue,” Nahid said, adding that excessive publicity of such pass-fail issue would tarnish the image of the country abroad.
