‘Joy’s remarks reek of plot’

The BNP says the recent statement by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s son Sajeeb Ahmed Wazed Joy about the upcoming general election reeks of conspiracy.

At a media call at the Naya Paltan office on Friday, Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi protested and condemned the remark by Joy against BNP’s Senior Vice Chairman Tarique Rahman.

“(His) imaginary information is politically motivated. It carries hints of conspiracy over the election,” he said.

Speaking at an Iftar organised by Jubo League at the Bangabandhu Avenue on Tuesday, Joy had said, “I have had information that the Awami League will return to power. The propagandas being run by the BNP must be tackled.”

He also blamed Tarique, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s elder son, for the deadly grenade attack on an Awami League rally on Aug 21, 2004.

He also alleged the attack had been planned at Hawa Bhaban. “The son of the then Prime Minister, Tarique Rahman, had made the plan to kill my mother.”Tarique is widely believed to have run a government parallel to his mother Khaleda Zia’s 2001-6 administration from her erstwhile Hawa Bhaban political office in Gulshan to commit corruption.

Rizvi said: “The statement Sajeeb Wazed made alluding to Tarique Rahman is vulgar, false…”
