Reiterating that the country will go backward if BNP returns to power, Prime Minister’s son Sajeeb Wazed Joy on Saturday called on people to cast their votes for Awami League in the upcoming general election to take the country forward.

“We (people) want to go ahead. If we want so, votes must be cast again for Awami League,” he said while talking to reporters after attending a function with students of different colleges and universities in the port city.

Centre for Research and Information (CRI) hosted the event, titled ‘Let’s Talk’, at Chittagong Club.

Referring to the last BNP-led government, Joy said, “BNP had introduced a black chapter in the (history of) country during its five-year tenure. A horrible situation including terrorism and bomb blasts had plagued the country. We don’t want to go back to those black days.”

Joy claimed that the country saw the massive development in the last four and a half years under the present government.

Over the much-hyped dialogue between the government and the opposition to resolve the ongoing political crisis, Joy, also a computer scientist, said though Awami League is interested in discussion, opposition’s stance is not clear in this regard. “Once the opposition opts for dialogue and then backtracks,” he said.

Joy, the only son of the Prime Minister, said Awami League wants the next general election to be held as per the constitution.
