The Prime Minister son Sajeeb Ahmed Wazed Joy has said Awami League-led government should continue in power to establish Bangladesh as a middle income country.
In a post in his facebook fan page on Tuesday morning, he wrote, “If our policies are continued we will definitely become a middle income country by 2021. Perhaps even sooner. This will only happen if you vote for the Awami League.”
“Bangladesh Awami League – taking the country to a bright future!”
Joy’s remarks came after the World Economic Forum’s 2013-14 Global Competitiveness Index (GCI) published on Monday showed that Bangladesh’s competitiveness in the world of business has improved and gone up eight notches to 110th place among 148 nations.

He said, “Today Bangladesh registered another improvement. We have moved up eight positions in our Global Competitiveness Index. This is a ranking done by the World Economic Forum that measures how competitive our economy compared to other countries.”
The grandson of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman also considered recently crossing $1000 in per capita income ‘a huge milestone’.
“All of this has happened because of our Awami League Government’s policies. The country has never progressed this fast.”
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s son had joined some of the party’s programmes recently after coming to the country with his wife and son.
That attracted much attention, specially after he opened his facebook page.
Joy said he was working for Awami Legaue to boost the party’s re-election bid to secure a second term, something that eluded the country’s two major parties since democracy returned in early 1990s.
The BNP and Awami League have returned to power – and lost it – every five years.
Joy’s mother Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is desperate to break the jinx and bring the Awami league back to power on the strength of a creditable economic performance.
She has been asking her countrymen to vote the Awami league back to power to achieve the national dream of emerging as a middle income country by end of the decade.
