JMB military chief killed in ‘grenade explosion’

The detained chief of military wing of the banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh Mohammad Javed was killed while three policemen injured in a grenade explosion at Oxygen crossing in Chittagong city on Tuesday morning.
After the explosion, Javed and the policemen were taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital where physicians declared the militant man dead.
According to the information provided by Javed, a team of detectives of Chittagong Metropolitan Police conducted another drive to recover one more grenade early Tuesday.
Earlier on Monday evening detectives in a special drive detained five suspected members of the banned militant outfit and recovered nine grenades, one pistol from their possessions at Hazi Nur Ahmed tower in the city’s Khowajanagar area.
Babul Akter, additional deputy commissioner (Detective Branch) of CMP, told newsmen that they also seized 120 rounds of bullets, bomb-making materials and knives.
