Jamaat moves hartal to Aug 13-14

Jamaat-e-Islami on Tuesday deferred its countrywide 48-hour hartal by one day to August 13-14.

Earlier, the Islamist party had announced to enforce the hartal on August 12-13.

In a statement on Tuesday, Jamaat acting secretary general Rafiqul Islam Khan said, “We earlier had called the hartal for August 12 and 13 protesting the government’s conspiracy to annihilate Jamaat, killing its leaders and to foil the next general polls. But the hartal is being rescheduled for August 13 and 14 considering the homebound people’s return to their workplaces after the celebrations of Eid-ul-Fitr.”

Rafiqul urged all, irrespective of professions, to spontaneously observe the hartal programme.

Hours after the High Court declared illegal its registration as a political party, Jamaat-e-Islami on August 1 called a 48-hour countrywide hartal for August 12 and 13.
