Jamaat-e-Islami called a down to dusk hartal in Khulna district protesting the arrest of its assistant secretary general and former legislator of Khulna-5 constituency Mia Golam Parwar.
The Detective Branch of police on Monday arrested Golam Parwar in the capital’s Gulshan.
Parwar was shown arrested in a case filed in connection with a clash between Jamaat-Shibir men and police and vandalism done by the activists on November 5 in Motijheel, the DB sources added.
However, a Dhaka court on Tuesday placed Golam Parwar on a five day remand in the case.
Metropolitan Magistrate Harun-ur-Rashid passed the ordered after Motijheel police produced him before it with a 10 day remand prayer.
