It’s cruelest genocide of history: BNP

Dhaka, Feb 28 (UNB) – Condemning the killings of people by law enforcers and ‘ruling party cadres’ following the ICT-1 verdict against Jamaat leader Delwar Hossain Sayedee, BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Thursday termed it the cruelest genocide of history.

In a statement, he said, “The government has manifested its annihilating and fascist character by unleashing a heinous violence by killing a large number of common people and opposition leaders and activists by its police-Rab and Awami cadres just after the announcement of the capital punishment for Moulana Delwar Hossain Sayedee.”

At least 37 people were killed and many more injured in widespread violence across the country following the verdict.

Reminding the government of tragic consequences of the all past fascist regimes, Fakhrul urged the government to shun the path of killing and bloodshed.

He also demanded a judicial investigation into the ‘indiscriminate’ killings of people by the government forces.

The BNP leader also prayed for salvation of the departed souls and conveyed his deep sympathy to the members of bereaved families.
