Middle-East-based terrorism group Islamic State reportedly claimed responsibility for the murder of Hindu tailor in Tangail.
In a tweet posted at about 6:00pm on Saturday, US-based terrorism monitoring group, SITE Intelligence said, ‘ISIS claimed credit for murder of Nikhil Joarder, a Hindu, in Tangail, Bangladesh, saying he blasphemed Muhammad.’
SITE, in its website, also uploaded a graphic image of Amaq Agency, known to be IS’ propaganda site and said, ‘By way of its Amaq News Agency, the Islamic State (IS) claimed credit for the hacking death of a Hindu tailor in Tangail district in Bangladesh.’
Knife-wielding assailants hacked Hindu tailor Nikhil Chandra Jowardar to death at Dubail of Gopalpur in Tangail on Saturday noon.
Additional police superintendent of Gopalpur circle Aslam Khan said that Nikhil was working at his shop Tirtha Bastralay and Tailors at Dubail while two people riding a motorbike rushed there at about 12:30pm, hacked him to death and hurriedly fled. Both of them were in helmets.
Police found a black bag from the spot in which they recovered three or four bomb-like objects, he said.
Gopalpur police station officer-in-charge Abdul Jalil said that Nikhil earlier made some offensive remarks about prophet Muhammad (SAW) which might have caused the murder.
A case was filed against Nikhil with Gopalpur police station over the matter, he added.
Nikhil’s relative Goutam Chandra denied the allegation and claimed that he was killed over land dispute.
