The Iranian Movie “A Separation” has surprised everybody in the 2011 Golden Globe Award Ceremony by winning the title for “Best Foreign Film”.
Asgar Farhadi, writer and director of the movie received the award for best foreign film from the Pop Diva Maddona. Asgar Farhadi is not the only Iranian who is excited to win this award, the whole new generation of Iranian people are very excited.
Iranian Facebook users did not hold themselves back to express their excitement. Iman, a 29 year old Iranian facebooker wrote “Today is the day every Iranian in the world is proud”. Another user said that he could not believe his eyes!
Though Iranian director won such a prestigious award Iranian Media did not show much interest in it immediately. The reason behind is that when the award ceremony was going on, it was far past midnight in Iran.
Iranian Government at first banned the movie in Iran. Even they stopped the shooting of the film saying it was anti-government. Later, director Asgar Farhadi apologized for the misunderstanding and the shooting of the movie continued from that point.

The film is based on a married couple, who are faced with a difficult decision – to improve the life of their child by moving to another country or to stay in Iran and look after a deteriorating parent who has Alzheimers.
The film received the Golden Bear for Best Film and the Silver Bears for Best Actress and Best Actor at the 61st Berlin International Film Festival, becoming the first Iranian film to win the Golden Bear. The film won 69th Golden Globe Awards Best Foreign Language Film. The film is also the official Iranian submission for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 2012 Academy Awards. On January 18, 2012, the film was named as one of the nine shortlisted entries for the Oscars.
