Inflation rate targeted at 6 %

The next fiscal year’s GDP growth has been targeted at 7.3%

The government is planning to place an ambitious budget, possibly of Tk2,49,000 crore for the next fiscal year, focusing on investment with a target of 6% inflation rate.

Finance Minister AMA Muhith yesterday at a meeting presented the broad outline of the next year’s macro-economic target and budget outlay to the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, said a number of senior oficers who attended the meeting.

The finance minister will place the budget on June 5 in the Jatiya Sangsad.

Sources at the meeting said the prime minister asked the finance minister to prepare the budget in such a “people-friendly” way that media and political parties cannot not make any negative criticism on it.

The meeting also planned to reduce the bank borrowing. The outgoing year saw a bank borrowing of Tk30,000 crore . The government wants to bring it down to Tk27,000 crore in the next fiscal year.

Muhith told the meeting that he was planning to keep the budget deficit within 5% of the GDP.

The total amount of budget deficit will cross Tk66,000 crore.
