The bilateral talks between Bangladesh and India on customs cooperation will be held on Oct 21—22 in Dhaka.
India’s Revenue Secretary Sumit Bose and Bangladesh’s National Board of Revenue Chairman Md Ghulam Hussain will lead the respective sides.
It will be the ninth round of talks under the Joint Group of Customs (JGC), a bilateral framework, Indian High Commission in Dhaka says.
The meeting will be held against the backdrop of growing bilateral trade between the two countries with the increasing trend of Bangladesh’s exports after India allowing several Bangladeshi products a duty and quota free market access.
Bangladesh’s $563.9 million export to India was highest ever in the last fiscal, a year after announcing the market access.
The Indian high commission says the growing trade calls for greater levels of trade facilitation.
It says the two sides during their meeting are expected to review the existing mechanism for exchange of customs related information and infrastructure facilities available at the Land Customs Stations (LCSs).
They will also look into the procedural bottlenecks related to trade such as testing facilities, online processing facilities congestion and documentation.
Last such meeting was held in New Delhi in April 2012.
