India formally regrets recent border killings: MKA

India has formally regretted the recent two incidents of bo

rder killings by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF), Home Minister Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir said on Thursday.

The minister made the comment after emerging from a meeting with Indian High Commissioner Pankaj Saran at his secretariat office in the capital.

“Both India and Bangladesh are investigating the recent incidents of border killings,” said the minister.

Citing his own visit to India in December last year, the home minister said both the countries agreed in principle that there would be no shooting on the border except in case of self defence.

“India is investigating as to why the two recent incidents of shootings took place on the border,” he added without elaborating.

Replying to a query about the discussion with the Indian high commissioner, the minister said they talked about possible issues that are to be discussed during the visit of Indian home minister to Bangladesh.

Indian Home minister Sushil Kumar Shinde is scheduled to visit Bangladesh from January 28 to 30.

It is mentionable that six people were killed by BSF on Thakurgaon, Chapainawabganj and Joypurhat frontiers since January 1.
