The nation celebrated the 44th Independence and National Day on Wednesday with a fresh vow to turn Bangladesh into a peaceful and progressive country.
On this occasion various cultural organisations held elaborate programmes across the country.
The Ministry of Cultural Affairs, different cultural bodies, organisations and people of all walks of life paid their homage to the martyrs of Liberation War, set a new Guinness Book World Record through the rendition of national anthem in unison and held high the conscience of Independence vowing to make Bangladesh move forward.
Liberation War Museum
Marking Shadhinota Utshab 2014 and 18th founding anniversary of Liberation War Museum (LWM), a weeklong (March 22-28) programme is on at LWM premises and Jalladkhana Boddhobhumi Smritipeeth, Mirpur simultaneously. On March 25 evening, Trustee of LWM Mafidul Haque delivered the welcome address while Barrister Turin Afroz discussed on the title “Trial of War Crimes” at LWM premises. Members of Swarochitra Abritti Chorcha O Bikash Kendra presented a choral recitation while artistes of Boddhobhumir Shontaldol and Meherunnesa Girls’ School and College rendered choral songs.
Shadhin Bangla Betar Kendro artiste Indra Mohan Rajbongshi offered several solos. Later, Members of Universal Theatre staged a street theatre “Chharpotro,” written and directed by Mazharul Haque Pintu and Abul Hossein Khokon respectively.
Bangla Academy
Bangla Academy organised a discussion meeting at its Nazrul Mancha in the afternoon with Prof Abu Mohammad Delwar Hossain of History Department, the University of Dhaka, presenting a keynote paper, titled ’Bangladesher Muktijudha O Muslim Biswa’, on the occasion.
With President of Bangla Academy Prof Anisuzzaman in the chair, Prof Giasuddin Molla of Political Science department of Dhaka University addressed the event.
Shilpakala Academy
Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy also arranged a discussion on the Liberation War at its National Theatre Auditorium on Wednesday evening.
With Liaquat Ali Lucky in the chair, Colonel (Retd) Shawkat Ali MP spoke at the discussion as chief guest while Advocate Sultana Kamal addressed the event as special guest. Earlier, the academy launched its two-day celebrations at its National Music and Theatre Department Auditorium on Tuesday evening. With Director General of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in the chair, its Director of National Music and Theatre Department Begum Sara Ara Mahmud and President of Bangladesh Pathonatok Parishad Mannan Hira spoke at the opening ceremony.
Theatre troupe Somoy staged its much-acclaimed production ‘Bhager Manush’ at the Dhaka Club on the Independence Day on Wednesday evening.
Sangskritik Jote
Sammilito Sangskritik Jote (SSJ) organised a celebration programme at the Central Shaheed Minar premises where music troupe Bonhishikha and Satyen Sen Shilpi Gosthi performed choral songs while artistes of Charukontho, Projonmo Kontho and Kendriyo Khelaghar Ashor recited poems at the event.
Members of Dhaka Padatik staged their production “Madarika Khel” at the venue. Written by Masum Aziz, Mizanur Rahman directed the play.
IGCC
To mark the 44th Independence Day of Bangladesh, Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre (IGCC) in Dhaka launched its three-day celebration programmes on Monday.
The IGCC Dhaka organised a live screening of three films based on Bangladesh’s independence – ‘Ekattorer Jishu’ of Nasiruddin Yousuf Bachchu, ‘Rabeya’ and ‘Jibondhuli’ of Tanvir Mokammel on Wednesday. Singers Tapan Mahmud, Shaheen Samad and Timir Nandy, versatile artists of Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra, enchanted audience at a musical soiree at Indira Gandhi Cultural Center on Tuesday evening.
