Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar today unveiled the logo of Dhaka Premier League cricket club ‘Legends of Rupganj’ in the capital, Dhaka.
The batting maestro, who arrived on a one-day visit this morning, visited Rupganj upazila of Narayanganj before the logo unveiling at Hotel Sonargaon.
After landing at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka around 11:00am, he was flown to Rupganj by a helicopter where he attended a health-awareness programme organised by the Unicef.
Unicef’s first brand ambassador for South Asia working to promote hygiene and sanitation in the region, Tendulkar met schoolchildren at a primary school ground.
He encouraged school kids about maintaining hygiene and explained the usefulness of sanitation.
Later, he flew back to the capital.
Teldulkar unveiled the logo of the club ‘Legends of Rupganj’ at Hotel Sonargaon at 4:40pm.
“I have good memories in Bangladesh. I was honored by the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina when I scored my 100th centuries in 2012,” Sachin said after unveiling the logo of ‘Legends of Rupganj’.
He also wished the club “Best of Luck”.
Talking to The Daily Star yesterday, Lutfur Rahman Badal, owner of Legends of Rupganj who happens to be a good friend of Teldulkar, said: “It is an honour for my club that such a legend is coming to unveil its logo. I think this is the first time that the player has agreed to do anything of this sort.”
The last time Tendulkar was in Dhaka, he scored his 100th international century during the Asia Cup in 2012. He will leave Dhaka tonight.
Legends of Rupganj were formerly known as Gazi Tank Cricketers Club, who won the Premier League — Bangladesh’s lone 50-over domestic competition — title last year.
