President of Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh (BDB) Prof AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury on Saturday said the proposed budget for fiscal 2014-15 cannot be legitimised.
In a statement, the former President also termed illegal the placing of budget in parliament by the Finance Minister of an illegal regime.
On Thursday, Finance Minister AMA Muhith placed a Tk 2,50,506 crore budget in parliament for fiscal year 2014-15.
The BDB chief said, “This government is not elected with people’s votes. So, this parliament is not legal either. The current regime has no right to place any budget.”
Mentioning that people did not cast their votes in the January-5 election, he said 154 MPs were elected uncontested while the others got only 10 percent votes.
“The current parliament constituted with so-called MPs is also illegal. Therefore, the budget placed by this regime cannot be legitimised.”
