A housewife was gang-raped, allegedly by three people, in a remote char area under Rangabali upazila of Patuakhali last night.
Being informed by locals, police arrested two alleged rapists — Sakib (27) and Habib (25) — from their houses this morning, said Belal Hossain, sub-inspector of Charmontaj Police Probe Centre.
Quoting the woman (30), SI Belal said three local youths — Sakib, Arif and Habib — entered her house at the village in Charmontaj union around 9:00pm yesterday and raped her after tying her hands and feet.
They also looted cash and some gold ornaments from the house, claimed the mother of two.
The incident happened when her husband was out of the house, said the police official.
The accused have been threatening her not to file any case, the woman said.
A close relative of the woman claimed that Sakib along with his accomplices committed the crime over previous enmity with her family.
The woman could not file any case yet as she is undergoing treatment at the hospital, said Md Mahfuzur Rahman, additional superintendent of Patuakhali Police.
Police have already started looking into the matter and are trying to arrest the criminal, our Patuakhali correspondent reports quoting Md Mahfuzur Rahman.
