A mild heat wave over Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Tangail and some other parts of Bangladesh has been made unbearable due to high levels of humidity.
Weather experts reported 72 percent humidity in Dhaka’s atmosphere on Tuesday.
“This will last for a few more days,” says weather forecaster Abul Hamid Mollik.
The high levels of humidity, specially when the sky is overcast, can make it unbearable even if the temperature remains between 30 to 34 degrees Celsius.
“It makes one sweat heavily, but things get better in a dry spell,” says Mollik.
He said the south-west monsoon is due to arrive in early June, leading to normal rains and few depressions in the Bay of Bengal.
But the high level of humidity is only to be expected before advent of monsoon.
The mercury soared to 36 degree Celsius in Dhaka on Tuesday afternoon with the highest temperature – 37 degree Celsius – recorded in Rajshahi.
The Met office says a depression is forming over northern Bay of Bengal.
They predict thunder squalls with rain over some areas of Rangpur, Chittagong, Sylhet and few areas of Dhaka, Khulna, Barisal and Rajshahi in the next few days.
Met office forecasters say hydrological volume in all rivers this month will remain normal but rains later could lead to landslides in north-east and south-eastern hilly regions of the country.
