Hefajat-e-Islam Bangladesh on Wednesday called a daylong hartal in greater Chittagong for Sunday protesting the government’s refusal to give it permission for its scheduled rally in the city.
The Islamist group will also stage demonstrations after Juma prayers on Friday protesting the government action.
The announcement came from a meeting of Hefajat central committee held at Hathazari at noon.
Hefajat organising secretary Maulana Azizul Haque Islamabadi said authorities concerned did not give them permission to hold their two-day rally at Jamiatul Falah Mosque ground in the city on Thursday and Friday.
The meeting also criticised the government for not to allow them their rally, he said.
Hefajat ameer Allama Ahmed Shafi and its secretary general Junaid Babunagari were, among others, present at the meeting.
