HC asks not to harass, arrest Fakhrul

The High Court on Thursday asked the police to refrain from harassing or arresting BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir until submission of inquiry reports in three cases filed against him under the Explosives Substances Act with different police stations in the capital.

Responding to a petition, an HC division bench comprising Justice Borhan Uddin and Justice KM Kamrul Kader passed the order.

Police filed two cases – one on December 1 and the other on December 25 last year – with Ramna police station against Fakhrul on charge of instigating petrol bomb attack on vehicles during the blockade enforced by BNP-led 18-party alliance.

In the third case filed on November 28 last year, Shahbagh police made Fakhrul an accused on similar charge.

Advocate AJ Mohammed Ali, assisted by Zainul Abedin, appeared for the BNP leader.
