BNP chief Khaleda Zia has stated under no circumstances will the opposition accept Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as the head of the election-time government.
Addressing a rally in the northern district of Rangpur on Sunday, she again demanded reinstatement of the caretaker government system.
“In 2007, you didn’t accept Justice KM Hasan. And now it’s out of question to accept you as the head of state during the polls,” Khaleda said, indicating her political adversary.
The Awami League is conspiring for a ‘fixed election’, the opposition chief claimed.
“I didn’t come here to campaign for the election. This fixed election has to be stopped.”
In her speech, Khaleda asked the administration and police to not be a party to a ‘staged election’ and warned that if they were, the people would mark them out.
The rally also saw two former Jatiya Party MPs joining the BNP. Rangpur is considered a stronghold of the Ershad-led Jatiya Party, a stakeholder of the current Grand Alliance government.
The BNP-nominated candidates failed to win any Rangpur constituency in the parliamentary elections held in 2008.
