Farmers who cultivated tomato earlier are reaping the benefit of the bumper production of the high-yielding variety of tomato.
The farmers in the district cultivated BARI-5 tomato variety receiving advice from the local Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) office.
About 30-35 tonnes of tomato have been collected from each hectare of land in the district this season.
Sabujkhan of Sachilapur village in sadar upazila said he cultivated the tomato variety on his one bigha land while Chan Mia of Gabkhan village could produce the variety of the winter vegetable to his satisfaction.
Expressing joy, he added, he will cultivate the tomato variety on more land next year.
Mohammad Alauddin, an official of the district DAE, said the farmers are very happy with the good harvest of the BARI-5 tomato variety
