Green technology expo begins

A three-day expo on innovation, development and green investment summit began yesterday in the capital with over a hundred global companies showcasing their environment friendly technologies.

State Minister for Power Nasrul Hamid inaugurated the event at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre.

The expo is being attended by 130 global leading companies from 13 countries in 220 stalls.

Speakers at the opening ceremony said the expo will create an opportunity to establish cross-border trade relations, face to face contact, sharing knowledge and experience to standardize their products, modernize business and improve supply chain management.

Speaking at the inauguration, Naushad Ali Chowdhury, the executive director of Bangladesh Bank, said, “We haven’t paid enough attention to the environment, and as a result we’re facing many development challenges.”

Nasrul Hamid said technologies were improving every day.

“Are we keeping pace with the changes in technology? We have to discuss this and plan accordingly,” he said.

The minister stressed on introducing green technologies that would help grow sustainable future cities and villages.

At the venue, the participating companies showcased efficient generators, solar PV and irrigation pumps, intelligent fire safety and building construction equipment, LED lighting, heat control and air conditioning systems and eco-industrial products.

The company GTS Solar System showcased a solar powered water pump. They said the 2,400W solar pump, costing Tk2.24 lakh, had recently been set up at two places in Rangpur and Comilla and had gotten positive feedback from the users.
