Govt’s evil-efforts put democracy at stake: Mosharraf

BNP standing committee member Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain on Wednesday alleged that the rule of law and democracy in the country are at stake due to the government’s evil design to hang onto power.

“The government’s evil-efforts to cling to power have put the democracy and the rule of law into a grave crisis,” he said.

Mosharraf came up with the allegation while addressing a rally at Sennagar ground in Meghna upazila arranged by Gobindapur union unit of BNP.

He said the government has lost earth beneath its feet as people lost their confidence in it due to its misrule and widespread corruption.

The BNP leader said the government is unwilling to arrange the election under a non-party administration as it knows it very well that the ruling party will face a massive debacle if the election is held under such a government.

He also observed that the country is heading towards confrontation due to the government’s stubbornness to hold the election under a partisan government.

Mentioning that there is no alternative to restoring the caretaker government to oversee the next polls, Mosharraf said over 90 percent people of the country are in favour of the opposition’s demand for arranging the election under a non-party administration.

He warned that they will wage a strong movement after October 25 to force the government to concede to their demand.

The BNP leader asked the party leaders and activists to take all-out preparations to launch the decisive movement.
