BNP Standing Committee Member Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain speaking at a protest rally on Friday said, “Government is hatching a new conspiracy thinking Khaleda Zia will return to power if election is held under a neutral poll-time government. They are conspiring to hand over power to a third force before they leave.”
He threatened that this plot will not be good for the government or the country.
Addressing the government he said, “There is still time, read the writings on the walls. Prepare to introduce the bill to reinstate caretaker-government system in the upcoming parliament session. BNP will help.”
The rally organised by Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB) at the national press club to demand the release of Amar Desh acting editor Mahmudur Rahman and human rights organisation ‘Odhikar’ secretary Adilur Rahman Khan Shuvro.
Another Standing Committee member of the main opposition, Rafiqul Islam Miah, speaking at a discussion at ‘Jatiya Nagarik Shangsad’ made similar accusations.
He alleged that the government was plotting to extend its stay in power by paving the way for a “state of emergency’.
“Awami League wants to plunge the country into a massive crisis. But the constitution does not allow extension of parliament’s tenure.”
