Dhaka, Mar 8 (UNB) – BNP standing committee member MK Anwar on Friday warned that resistance would be built up against the government if ‘mass killing’ is not stopped.
“The government killed over 100 people in the country in the last week only to cling to power. Be cautious, or else, we will put up a strong resistance if the government does not stop the mass killing”, he said while addressing a discussion in the city’s Institution of Engineers.
Jatiyatabadi Muktijuddher Projonmo held the programme marking the sixth imprisonment day of party’s senior vice-chairman Tarique Rahman.
Chaired by Shayma Obaid, president of the organization, the discussion was addressed, among others, by educationist Prof Mahbubullah, BNP chairperson’s advisor Shawkat Mahmud, press club president Kamal Uddin Sabuj.
The then army-backed caretaker government arrested Tarique on March 7, 2007.
Addressing on the occasion, MK Anwar hoped that Tarique, who is now in London for treatment, will return home after recovery and lead the nation.
Addressing another discussion, organised by Jatiyatabadi Muktijoddah Dal at Dhaka Reporters’ Unity, another BNP standing committee member Barrister Rafiqul Islam Miah said: “No one will be able to impede the leadership of Tarique through ‘false propaganda’.
