The government has decided to procure Aman rice at a rate of Tk 26 per Kilogram (Kg) after considering all aspects of the production cost and market price, food minister Abdur Razzak said on Sunday.
He said the government has set a target of procuring three lakh metric tons (MT) Aman rice.
Abdur Razzak was talking to journalists at a press briefing after a meeting of the Food monitoring committee held at the cabinet division with him in the chair.
The minister said this time the production cost of Aman was Tk 24.76 per kg. He said Aman rice was being sold in the market at a lower price- Tk 22 to Tk 23 per kg.
Abdur Razzak said earlier Boro rice was selling at Tk 28 per kg. He said the production cost of Aman is less than that of boro.
When journalists told the minister that the farmers were getting less price for their produce of rice and what steps the government is going to take the food minister said the matter was discussed in Sunday’s meeting but no decision was taken.
The minister said the government will take decision as to whether rice will be exported after 15 days considering overall situation.
